Triumphs and Talent: Coffee Champions from the 5th World Coffee Conference 2023

The 5th World Coffee Conference 2023 at Bengaluru Palace had some exciting news to share! The International Coffee Organization, along with the Coffee Board of India, Ministry of Commerce and Industry (Government of India), the Government of Karnataka, and the coffee industry, unveiled the National Latte Art, Barista, Filter Coffee, Women’s Star Brewer, and Fine Cup Award Championships.

During the 4-day event, known as WCC 2023, several thrilling competitions took place, with the National Barista Championship being the highlight. This prestigious contest aims to recognize the most skilled and talented baristas in India, promoting excellence in the coffee industry and fostering a vibrant café culture. The winner, Mr. Hrishikesh Mohite from Café’ De Meet, secured the title and the opportunity to represent India at the World Barista Championship in South Korea, along with a cash prize.

The Women’s Star Brewer Skills Championship provided a platform for female baristas and homebrewers to showcase their coffee brewing skills, creating their own ‘Signature Beverage’ using home brewing equipment. Priti Pradhan emerged as the champion. India saw the debut of the National Latte Art Championship, where baristas displayed their artistic talents alongside their coffee-making skills. Among 150 contestants, Mr. Mohammad Afsar claimed the title and will compete in the International Latte Art Championship in Taiwan.

The Great Indian Filter Coffee Championship celebrated the traditional art of brewing Filter Coffee, with Vani Shree N from Brown Bean Artistry emerging as the winner. The ‘Flavour of India – The Fine Cup Award Cupping Competition’ attracted a whopping 1758 participants, all striving for excellence in Indian coffee production. The winners included Mrs. Killo Aswini for Best Washed Arabica, M/s. Kruthi Coffee, Kindriguda Tribal Farmers Group for Best Arabica Naturals, Mr. Jacob Mammen, M/s. Badra Estate Balehonnur Estate for Best Washed Robusta, and Mr. Jacob Mammen, M/s. Badra Balehonnur Estate for Best Robusta Naturals.

This event was not just about competition; it was a vibrant celebration of coffee culture, bringing together coffee aficionados, industry leaders, and enthusiasts under one roof. As we bid farewell to the 5th World Coffee Conference 2023, we carry with us the memories of champions and the inspiration to keep brewing excellence in every cup of coffee.

This 4-day international event featured Conferences, Skill Building Workshops, a Growers Conclave, CEOs and Global Leaders Forums, a Startup Conclave, Competitions, Awards, and an Exhibition showcasing the latest coffee products and services. It was a coffee lover’s paradise!
